Yesterday Oprah featured "America's Thriftiest Families." This episode was full of money saving tips from real families around the country. Some fantastic tips were featured including how to significantly reduce your energy bills, low cost holiday gifts, and saving at the grocery store. I was on Yahoo Shine and saw this interesting question: If you could only shop in one store for the rest of your life, what would it be? Mine would be Nordstrom Rack.
What store would you pick?
Martinis, Manolos and mayhem. This was the scene at the Angelika Theater in Dallas last night. You would have thought it was fashion week (or the Dallas equivalent - Fashion at the Park). I went to the 6:00 PM show and as I approached the theater it looked like a zoo - both inside and outside the theater (local news trucks were even there). Let me tell you, these women were DECKED OUT! Cosmos were in hand (you can drink at this theater), LV's were in tote, and the ladies were traveling in packs. I definitely could understand why so many groups of girlfriends were there: they were all waiting in anticipation for the pinnacle fashionista movie of the year. And what is the verdict? Fabulous!
I can honestly say I have never laughed and cried so much in one movie. And I mean I had to keep the "ugly cry" at bay which was hard (I'll leave that one until I buy the DVD and watch it in the comfort of my own home). Some of the tears came from intense laughter, while others came from heart-wrenching moments in the script. Part of the emotion also came from knowing that, at some point, the movie would be over and Charlotte, Miranda, Carrie and Samantha would be the girlfriends we used to know...again.
Overall the movie did not disappoint. My only criticisms: 1)the product placements were pretty blatant at times and 2) the actor who played Smith seemed to be lacking some of his acting skills (and I used to love Smith!).

Over the weekend I ran into my friend, Raquel, who got a fabulous deal that she was excited to share with me. She recently went to a Chicagoland Macy's looking for a gown for a formal event. On a clearance rack she found this beautiful Jessica McClintock "Genvieve" gown. Apparently a bride had bought it for her bridesmaids' dress but changed her mind. As a result they had to reduce the unworn dress from $219 to $54! What a deal!
My friends and I had a great girls shopping weekend in Dallas. Unfortunately the FIG Finale sale was a little disappointing. The selection was great, but I kept waiting for them to do the deep discounts that I experienced back in August. Needless to say, I only bought three items - a two-piece skirt suit and a pair of brown pumps. I love what I bought though! My friend Akosua scored the best deals of us all - she bought two pairs of Modern Vintage Mary Lou boots (one in black and one in brown) for $75 a piece. To give you an idea of how good of a deal this was, Zappos.com has these boots listed as originally $353.95. Don't they look like they were made for her?
I also bought some brown leather Mary Ann pumps also made by Modern Vintage. I had never
heard of Modern Vintage but I am very impressed. The shoes are so comfortable and stylish at the same time. The leather quality is also exquisite. The shoes are listed on this site for $189.99. My price? $40! Gotta love it!
I couldn't find a picture of the skirt I bought online (the designer's website seemed to be having issues), but I did find the jacket. The designer is Chalet. They have the jacket here for $167.50 . I paid $80 for the entire suit! I guess it was worth going. I'll just be waiting for the next one in hopes that I can have another shopping experience like the first time I attended.
I just can't get enough of Isaac Mizrahi for Target. And when I saw my friend Tandy this weekend, I was flabergasted when I found out the dress she was rocking (that everyone was swooning after by the way) was indeed another Isaac find. Here is Tandy rocking the Georgette Ruffle Dress that is now on sale at Target.com for just $27.99. Just FABULESS!
