My Weekend Shopping Excursion: San Marcos Prime Outlets

I love great outlets! I kept hearing a bunch of hype about the San Marcos Prime Outlets located between Austin and San Antonio, TX. Let's just say, I bought so much that I had to cut myself off to any more stores (didn't even get to check out Escada, Neiman Marcus Last Call or La Perla)!

Bath and Body Works, Barneys, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Banana Republic and Tahari were my faves. Though I couldn't find pics of my Tahari suit that I got for 80% off or the Marc by Marc Jacobs dress for 50% off, or the BCBG shoes I got for $29, here are a couple of my deals:

BANANA REPUBLIC

BATH & BODY WORKS OUTLET
Lay it on Thick Body Cream
$3.75 (that's right - it costs $15 online and in the stores!)

Guess what I discovered while I was there? They will be getting Betsy Johnson and Gucci over the next few months!

Thanks for the blog on the outlet I have been wanting to take the drive even though I live one exit from the Allen outlet.

If you live in North Texas, do not bother making the drive to San Marcos. You get much better deals at the Grapevine and Allen Outlets. San Marcos used to be great. However, it is now a destination shopping spot for natives and foreigners alike. Everything is picked through. Unless you are standing by a truck waiting for them to unload, the good deals are gone by the time you make it to the store.

I used to shop San Marcos constantly. I grew up in Corpus Christi and went to Baylor for undergrade and SMU for law school. I refused flights back home because that meant I would have to fly over San Marcos. Instead, I would make the laborious eight hour drive, with a three hour stop in San Marcos. I recently made a return trip for the Gucci opening (it opened on a Friday, I went that Saturday morning). Once again, picked through. You would think they were given these things away.

However, it is probably for the best. My dissappointment in San Marcos has saved gas, time, and energy. Instead, I am stimulating the local economy by patronizing Grapevine and Allen (now that it has a NM Last Call). So, my shopping has not suffered in the least.
